I don't have the least clue what kind of presents you're meant to receive today (gold, frankencense and myrrh?) but it's on the calendar.
So then, I read up to volume 8 of Love*Com the manga, so I figured that was enough to prep me for the live action movie. And as it turns out, I was right. Volume 8 is extra handy because there's the time line and other helpful things in the back, in case you've totally lost track by then, which I had.
It's got recognizable bits and pieces from the series, but other bits got lost in the shuffle. I don't know why the beginning bit with Risa rejected by a shorter guy and Otani rejected by a taller girl was in there; it didn't add anything to the struggle to get together. And I really don't know why they had that English narration either; my mom was complaining she couldn't understand what he was saying. Not that his pronounciation was bad, but I swear it was softer than the regular audio, and the subtitles for that part were in Japanese, so that wasn't helpful.
Poor Suzuki got shafted. That serious-minded Suzuki ended up being nosebleed boy with trendy glasses. Just to give him something to do, I suppose. He's not actually much help in the real storyline. The extra was as much as he got to do. Even Nakao. How come Nakao can't play basketball anymore? How can anyone claim that 3 on 3 is his specialty when he doesn't have a reliable three-man team organized and ready? And even Maity. His age got advanced from 24 to 30 (probably on account of that guy not being able to pull off 24, although he looked very Maity) and unfortunately, he looked way ego. Willingly posing for the glamour shots in a crown and boa? I'm pretty sure Maity never did that, at least. Rather worse because he was older too.
Lessee, I've got no quarrels with the casting as such, but I have no clue who anyone is, because I couldn't find translated credits. There was just that short extra on the cast, but only about four of them. Risa, Otani, Maity and her older sister (how a younger brother morphs into an older sister...?) who were maybe the famous ones on the cast. I wanted to know if the Nami Tamaki who did Nobu was the singing Nami Tamaki. And I would have quite liked to know where the Eiji Wentz cameo was. I was looking, but I guess I missed him (not that I can actually recognize him, but WaT was on the Kohaku, so I was looking for a paler hapalooking guy about the same height as Otani, give or take a few inches).
